Founded in 1853, Louisiana State University competes in 21 varsity sports and is represented by mascot Mike the Tiger. The athletic department also go by other official nicknames including Fighting Tigers, Tigers and Lady Tigers. The Ragin’ Cajuns have a colourful history with NCAA violations and were even given the “death penalty” in 1973. Despite this, the team conitnue to perform and were in the 2016 Quarterfinals for CIT tournament.
